Who can donate an organ?

    Everyone has the chance to be a registered pledger.

    Mentally disordered patients and children are not allowed to donor organs while they are still alive especially in Malaysia. Those with certain medical conditions for example Hepatitis B or C and any diseases that can be transmitted to another person are not allowed to donate their organs. The organs that meant to be donated will be screened by health professionals before those organ can be transplanted in the recipient to check for the compatibility between a donor and recipient. Prisoners are not allowed to donate organs to anyone else other than their close relatives only when life is in threatening circumstances.

    According to dermaorgan.gov.my (Official website of National Transplant Resource Centre), the youngest organ donor in Malaysia aged 25 days whereas the oldest organ donor aged 82 years old.
To those below than 18 years old who are interested to be a registered pledger , he or she must acquire parents or guardian's consent beforehand. Registering, as a pledger does not require medical check-ups or any payment.
